Vactors
Reading Stars Competition
is an online competition for schools where participants form groups to record
an audio play script using the Vactors web app and publish it as a podcast.
The primary aim of the competition is to inspire a love for the English
language by engaging students in dramatization, highlighting the power of

Reading Stars Competition (Singapore) is open to all MOE primary schools in Singapore. Each
school may submit one team, consisting of three P3 students and one
teacher-mentor. At
the start of the competition, participants will receive a list of scripts to
choose from for their entry. They will have one week to complete their
recordings and submit their podcasts. A
panel of judges will evaluate the podcasts based on Fluency, Pronunciation
& Clarity, Expression, and Creativity. The top five
teams will receive Gold, Silver, Bronze, and two Merit Awards, while all
participating students will be awarded certificates of participation. There
will be a briefing session for all teacher-mentors, and participants will
attend an online workshop by best-selling children's author and SPH radio
presenter, Mr. Neil Humphreys, who will guide them on effective script
reading. Participation
in this event is free and does not
require a Vactors subscription.
A tutorial guide will also be sent to all participants to assist them with
the recording and podcast submission process. Samples

Jo-Ann Netto-Shek Lecturer National
Institute of Education, Nanyang
Technological University Dr
Jo-Ann Netto-Shek is a teacher educator specializing in language learning
and literacy education in school contexts. She is part of the English
Language and Literature Academic Group at the National Institute of
Education (NIE), Singapore. Currently, she serves as the programme leader
for the Diploma in Education programme and the English Language Curriculum Studies
courses in the BA (Ed) (Primary) programme.
Dr Laurie Baker-Malungu Education University of Saint Joseph, Macao As
an educator, curriculum designer and internationally recognized author of
children's literature, Dr. Baker-Malungu views
literacy and reading as an essential component of learner autonomy, the key
to unlocking the creative potential within.
Ms Sophia Huang Sophia
Huang, author of the Nature Playtime series, won Best Picture Book at the
Singapore Book Awards for both her books Mr Roll Finds New Life in
2022 and Ms Jug Finds a Home in 2024. She is passionate about
upcycling materials into toys and art with her three children, a hobby she
shares on her Facebook page, Craftcycle for Kids.
Her work is regularly featured in the media, and she has also participated
in a video campaign by the National Environment Agency aimed at lowering
consumption and waste in Singapore. A highly sought after speaker, she
enjoys introducing the concept of upcycling to preschool and primary school
children through author visits and hands-on craft and storytelling
workshops.
